Introduction I worked in film/television/commercials for many years. Over a period spanning more than twenty years I photographed or worked on some 200 political campaign TV commercials, first for one Party, then the other. Consider me an active Free-thinking Conservative.
Interests Besides politics, I have an interest in old movies, classic jazz, books, a good drink, stereo photography, "team-cooking" with Karen, canoeing, and working on the house. Three years ago we adopted a wild-dog named Sadie-Bird from a rescue organization. We have no way of knowing for sure, but she looks like a full-blooded Pleistocene Cave Hound, one of the first domesticated dogs. She's a handful but we've got her trained and civilized to the point now where she's almost like a regular dog.
Favorite Movies Too many to mention. But start with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Singin'In the Rain, The 3rd Man, Red River, Shadow of a Doubt, Sunset Boulevard, Some Like It Hot, They Were Expendable, I Know Where I'm Going, North By Northwest, Wagonmaster...
Favorite Music For day in - day out listening I generally turn to classic jazz; Teddy Wilson, Buck Clayton, Django Reinhardt, Nat King Cole...I have a nice collection of air-checks and live recordings of Glenn Miller which are very enjoyable and capture the sound of the 1940s. Then, there's the ever-popular Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, and early Doris Day. For those who like a search into the lesser known greats, try Edyth Wright. She sang with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in the '30s. A great voice and a saucy delivery. My cousin's God-daughter, Kelly Flint, sang with a group called Dave's True Story until recently. They put out some great discs. Kelly Flint's a silky-voiced torch singer, 40 years out of time. I'd like to hear more. And, then there are those great motion picture sound track scores, especially by Bernard Herrmann, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Miklos Rozsa and Dimitri Tiomkin -- classic background tracks that complimented the picture.
Favorite Books Again as a sample, The Long Goodbye by Chandler, Night Shift by Wolff, The Essays of George Orwell, Witness by Chambers, My Antonia by Cather
