About me

LocationCopenhagen, Denmark
IntroductionIn October 2008 i moved to Denmark with the intention of becoming an apprentice in a Furniture makers shop. The apprentice contract is for 3 years 9 months long and consists of both school projects and work under a master. The first 6 months are at school where you are taught a basic knowledge of hand tool skills along with technical drawing, veneering, finishing, and machine shop skills. After the 6 month basics course the student needs to find a master to work under for the next 3 years. Then about every 6 month you have a school period that lasts 5 weeks. Each school period has its own specialty. School period 1 is a piece of furniture with dovetailed piston fit drawers. School period 2 is a joint project with the furniture makers and the building carpenter apprentices to work together to design, price, and build a kitchen. School period 3 is a free choice project. School period 4 is chair design and theory. school period 5 is chair construction. The 4th and 5th periods are taken with just a month in between. School period 6 is the final exam or journeyman project.
