Introduction Hudson is a lovely town - don't believe what everybody says! I’ll tell you, it sure was nice before urban redevelopment; my friends all agree with me. The land was bought originally by Dutch settlers in 1662, and settled by respectable New England whalers and merchants hailing primarily from Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Providence. Chartered as a city in 1785, Hudson grew rapidly as a bustling, beautiful port city, frequented by ships carrying sealskins and sperm oil, and various useful industries like cannonballs, cement, lab rats, glue, pocketbooks, matchbooks, and icepicks. That all was driven away by the newcomers, and the only decent business Hudson has left is Section 8 housing. This town got ruined in the 1970s. Urban blight, you know what I’m talking about? Oh my word! But we have some nice stores now, out on Fairview. And we have so many churches here, they call Hudson "the Naples of the Americas." And I won prom queen fair and square Agnes; get over it already. And in the 1800’s Hudson lost by one vote being named the state capital of New York which would have meant that we would've gotten The Egg! So there. Have a nice day everybody!
