About me

Location Bodrum, Türkiye
Introduction My grandfather started it all! He and my father were both Italian baker’s. As a child he would "teach" me taste. A slice of mortadella, a spoon of ricotta with honey or last year’s homemade wine. Father bought fascinating cheese on Arthur Ave.(Bronx) and my French mother made chicken in white wine. In 1960 I went to Turkey and stayed 8 years. I fell in love with Greek deli's in Cihangir, Flower Market food shops and long dinners on the Bosphorus. Turkey caught me hook line and sinker! In the mid 60's I traveled from Ankara to Van by road many times. The restaurants were primitive but I learned what to eat. I recall one spring morning in Erzurum. It was a spring market day and piled, high as a mountain, a family was selling mountain mushrooms. I bought 2 kilo’s, some hand made butter, a loaf of bread from the bakery. It was heaven with a bottle of Karalahana (black cabbage vines) wine. I still think about that "food event". I was 25 years old. Although, I am a member of many International wine and food organizations, sitting down to a lovely 4 hour lunch with a friend or two at a simple fish restaurant by the sea in Bodrum remains one of my favorite pastimes.
