| Introduction | BORN: August 7, 1968 in Compton, California, United States. HOMETOWN: Los Angeles. HIGH SCHOOL: St. John Bosco. COLLEGE: California State University Fullerton. ETHNIC ORIGIN: (if you want to know but were uncomfortable asking about the brown skin and Spanish surname) Third-Generation Mexican-American. |
| Interests | PHOTOGRAPHY: Donna Ferrato's book "Living with the Enemy" drew me in during college and I've been in love with documentary photography ever since., NEWS: When I was growing up my father was an avid newspaper reader and still subscribes to the L.A. Times; it rubbed off on me. A day without news is like...night., POLITICS: All of my adult life I've been a political junkie often focused on all things in American politics. I trace it back to my father's union activism and my mother's volunteerism and community activism not to mention my childhood obsession with The Beatles and 60's culture and my teen punk rock years. I have to admit that going to Catholic school all of my life and having a strict sense of social justice instilled in me by my Irish nuns made a difference too., FOOD: I do all of the cooking for my family specializing in Mexican-American but dabble in all kinds of cuisine. I reject suggestions of friends and relatives who urge me to cater or open a taco truck., MUSIC: Groups like The Dead Kennedys; The Clash; The Specials; and The Beatles had a profound effect on me. They absolutely influenced me and my choice of professions. Nevertheless I go through regular music phases and like just about everything. Lately I've been on a 70's pop thing and can't get enough of Terry Jack's "Seasons in the Sun" or Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Claire.", MY FAMILY: If anyone read this you might think I'm a complete bastard for listing my family last but I just didn't want to seem too sappy. However in essence I am a stay-at-home father and left a great job that I loved to be with my little boys. Cooking; preparing bottles; changing diapers; fixing toys; drying tears; playing with trains; reading Dr. Seuss is something that I never (nor did any of my family or friends) thought I'd be doing. Would you like see some baby pictures? |
