Introduction Two degrees later and several years of trying to make it work, I discovered that a career in the trenches of child welfare social work wasn't in the cards for me. A fabulous six month teaching stint in Madrid amidst it all reminded me that I deserved to have fun and be creative at least some of my waking hours. After a lifetime in Wisconsin, I left my job and moved to New York City to start over. After a brief internship at a production company, I felt the writing bug, which had initially brought me to college fifteen years earlier kick back in. So here I am, writing again and hoping to be somewhat thought-provoking along the way. I spend many nights, tossing and turning until I turn the light on and write down the thoughts that fill my head. Hence, “The Night Way.” Well, that and my German roots. (My last name is a loose translation.) And speaking of Germany, I recently had the chance to go back to the homeland! Two years in New York led to a pretty great six month opportunity in Berlin. But as inspiring as my time in Madrid, New York City, and Berlin has been, I am now very happy to return to my *real* roots back in Wisconsin.
