| Introduction | As a child, I often felt as though I didn't quite fit in, having been blessed with the unfortunate combination of being fairly smart and really short. Books were my special place, my escape and my refuge, a way of traveling far away and vicariously experiencing all sorts of places and things. In my small southern town, where reading for pleasure was a near alien activity, books gave me hope. Now, I teach about books and language and try oh-so-hard to help my students (myself included!) to find their voice through reading and writing. I teach French language, literature, translation and culture and am finishing up my dissertation in French Renaissance literature. |
