| Introduction | I live on a boat on a canal in the Pennine hills and I make all sorts of things in my tiny floating workshop. I am fascinated by the flora of my native islands and by the history and folklore surrounding each species. I work mainly with indigenous hardwoods and in them I find a beauty and character to rival the most costly and endangered exotic species. I source my wood as deadfall from the many places I travel through, from second-hand items of furniture and ornament, salvage it from skips and dumping sites and (with permission!) from people's woodpiles. Each piece I make has a story, and hopefully I can tell their stories here and share a bit of the magic I find in the woods and hedgerows. |
