| Introduction | Growing up in Ontario Canada, I was aware of British influences, but my most direct link to the 19th century was the one-room country schoolhouse I attended--and where I began my teaching career. Along the way, in my journey from that little red schoolhouse to one on the Web, I completed a master's degree in English and a doctorate in Education; married Linda (whom I "competed with as an English major" in college when we were undergraduates--we have two grown sons); taught literature and writing; and served as an academic dean. In 2003, I assisted others in founding Bridgepoint Education (www.bridgepointeducation.com). As you know, Ashford University is one of Bridgepoint's institutions. I live in Seattle, but have taught English on campus at Ashford, and make campus visits now several times a year. I enjoy reading poetry, novels and biographies; I've traveled throughout the USA, Canada and the UK--and in India, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Israel, Mexico,and Africa. |
