| Introduction | This blog is run by Befekadu Hailu who is a multiple awards-winning civil society leader, author of "Lost in Transition," and human rights advocate in Ethiopia. Befekadu has been at the forefront of social and political change in Ethiopia and beyond. As a co-founder and the first Director of the Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD Ethiopia), Befekadu had played a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of the Center which became a prominent human rights group in the country. Before founding CARD, he gained valuable experience as an independent writer and activist, contributing to various local print media outlets and co-founding the renowned Zone 9 Blogging and Activism Collective. Befekadu's unwavering commitment to his cause has led him to face significant challenges, including multiple unjust prosecutions and imprisonment. Despite these setbacks, he has remained steadfast in his pursuit of a more just and equitable society. His resilience and commitment to human rights have earned him recognition and awards including PEN Pinter International Writer of Courage Award in 2019. |
