| Introduction | Hi, my name is Ann. I'm married to the best guy in the world, John, and we have two beautiful daughters; Avery and Lucy. This blog is dedicated to Avery's life. She was born with a rare congenital eye disorder called Peter's Anomaly. This means her eyes did not develop properly, and she was born with severe glaucoma and cloudy corneas. She has endured many surgeries to give her a fighting chance at sight. In addition, she was born with a large arachnoid cyst in her brain. The cyst was removed when she was a few weeks old, but due to poor care from that doctor, she contracted bacterial meningitis shortly after. This infection has caused Avery to have many life-long neurological problems, including hydrocephalus, epilepsy and mild CP. Aaaaand a long list of residual issues from each of those! She currently has a VP Shunt in her brain to control her fluid, but it doesn't always work properly, and has required revision surgeries to get it working again. She's also on an aggressive treatment for epilepsy. To sum it up, Avery has been through A LOT in her short life, and I started this blog to update friends and family, as well as to document her journey. |
