Introduction	As a kid, licking cookie dough and cake batter from wooden spoons was, without a doubt, one of my favorite pastimes, and my mom’s kitchen was one of my favorite places to be. As I got older, baking became less a spectator sport and more a form of hands-on entertainment, especially during the cold, grey days of winter. The more time I spent in the kitchen, the more addicted I became. Not just to the sugary goodness of the dozens of cookies, pies, breads and cupcakes that we baked over the years, but to the rhythm of measuring, sifting, mixing and baking. The process, I find oddly soothing, the resulting sweet treat a delightful and delectable bonus, enthusiastically enjoyed by friends and family alike.
