Introduction For Christmas this year, I received artist, Carol Maine's Daily Painting: Paint Small and Often To Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist book. Well, the truth? I bought it for myself, but if my family knew my long held interest in the Painting a Day movement, they would have jumped at the chance of getting it for me. This gift changed my art world. I have been painting and drawing since I was in the fourth grade but could never comfortably call myself an "artist." Each painting I did started out with zeal and passion and great hope and after 40-60 hours most of my love for painting was sucked right out of me. I always wished to be better, to know more about values and composition and well, painting. The way Carol Maine explained things like lighting, brushes or, well everything is so clear and concise, funny and real that you can't help but want to paint. All the little gems that go with painting every day were right there in her book. No more excuses! With that, my painting a day journey began. And when that little voice in my head whispers I can't or I am nuts to think this will matter, I whisper back my new mantra. Just Paint!
