Introduction	As a student and professor, I am immersed in the world of knowledge and curiosity. This blog chronicles my journey through my PhD program in Technical Communication and Rhetoric, as I balance my work, education, family, and personal life. "At The Edges" refers to my interest in researching what happens at the margins of social norms and conventions. I'm curious about how people/groups/ideas move from the edges of what is deemed acceptable to inclusion in the dominant culture's value systems and structures. Society has witnessed the emergence of a "new normal" many times over as people and behaviors that were formerly proscribed have moved to acceptable or even conventional. How does this shift happen? What rhetorical strategies are invoked by people or groups to mark their behavior as conventional? What strategies are used by dominant cultures seeking to maintain their borders and exclude certain people/behaviors/ideas? So many questions, so little time.
