| Introduction | Since the age of nine, I've wanted to understand people of all races, nationalities, religions, etc. Maybe because I found it so difficult to be understood by others. This desire to be understood and belong has taken me on an interesting journey(and still is). I have come to realize that, despite the annoying stereotypes and pretentions of others, being an outsider is a blessing in disguise. It gifts us with the opportunity to not become so complacent in our own skin, rather to step out and understand the unknown. This is what is helping me to understand myself and confidence in my "true" identity. Living in Europe has opened my eyes to the destiny I was meant to live and finding the home I had been searching for. Now, I share the culture and language of my German husband, so vice versa. Together, we have made a beautiful daughter, who was born in Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt. Our union has deepened our understanding of one another's culture, making us feel somewhat like outsiders in our own countries. Now, I want to unite with other outsiders and create an avenue to express the Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being..."different". |
