Introduction My name is Isabel Augusto, and I am a writer and artisan from Lisbon, Portugal, who has lived in the United States for over 25 years. I am an English and History graduate for whom literature, writing, photography, and philosophy have always been the main passion. My connection with the natural world dictates not only my approach to life but also to art as an extension of life. Over five years ago, I started my own line of greeting cards with my amateur photography and thoughts, and in 2009 I self-published a book of photographic essays titled "Listening to the Pulse." That same year, I attended a narrative jewelry class by artist jeweler Nina Bagley at Squam Lake Art Center in New Hampshire and was introduced to coptic binding by the mixed media artist and friend Elizabeth Bunsen. These two events launched me into a new venture to create and sell handmade stitched journals with writers, plastic artists, and scrapbook lovers in mind. In 2011, I have traveled to Europe and launched Encadern-Arte Workshop in Portugal to teach coptic stitch journal binding techniques and to introduce students to Manifest Journals - a way to explore one's creative and writing skills.
