| Introduction | I am a microbiologist by trade, but a dressmaker by passion. I taught myself to sew about 7 years ago and fell in love with costumery. When I got involved in the Victorian dance scene in Colorado, I found the perfect melding of my passion for sewing and fun dress up: Victorian gowns! Let me preface this blog with a simple fact: I don't know what I am doing. I figure it out as I go. I have no formal training, and until 7 years ago I was convinced that I would somehow suck my fingers into a sewing machine and sew them to the fabric. This is an adventure for me, truly a learning experience. Since I get so many questions about how I make these pieces, I thought this would be a fabulous way to document my progress: my epic wins and my most embarrassing failures.
