| Introduction | I am way not perfect. I consider myself to be whole brain, w/ a preference to use the right hemisphere. I agree with the statement, "There's no limit to what you can accomplish, as long as you don't mind who takes the credit." Evian water tastes > city water, which tastes > well water. I sometimes work on the computer, w/ the TV on over-the-shoulder, tuned to Turner Classic Movies, on which I prefer classic film noir in "glorious black-and-white." I enjoy crafts that involve handwork. Coffee should be fresh but not flavored, and tastes good with sugar and cream. I'm shaped more like Kate Winslet / Bette Midler than Gwyneth Paltrow / Twiggy. Tie-dyed clothing can be energizing. Some of the things I enjoy are actually quite simple and sometimes free: a walk in nature, amid small creatures, can open one's mind. I acknowledge that my weight is above the standard parameter; I have a plan/goal/place/H2O bottle/supportive group of friends. I am an American, I vote, and my favorite amendment is the first one. Many people appear to have difficulty answering a yes-or-no question w/ "yes" or "no." I was born in the largest state in the USA. I don't know everything, but I can learn anything. |
| Interests | Reading is essential. Movies -- new + classic. I love quilting. The Civil War era quilt I am re-creating (in my own flavors) is at http://dearjane.com/. I enjoy telling a true story with images and sound. I'm a storyteller @ heart. Once on a drive from LA to SF, I realized my goal and scribbled it (while driving) on the only paper I could find, a dollar bill: "Documentation of an accomplishment." Where to find me 'round town: Treadmill / walking. Stauf's on Grandview. Rita's Ice. Chipotle on Fifth (if I can find a parking space!). Drexel Theatre: Grandview or Bexley. My last big vacation was a week backpacking near Escalante, Utah. Getting my paperwork together for one o' them fancy new passports. |
| Favorite movies | Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd = my favorite films. Blade Runner (bought the Final Cut DVD set). Recently been watching French New Wave, 400 Blows. Loving noir, classics, indies, dox. Also a string of Fritz Lang flix -- esp. the silents. Don't get me started! Mad Max, Strangelove. Favorite directors include Francois Truffaut, Billy Wilder, Peter Weir. Here are a few Netflix I have viewed: A Scanner Darkly (2006), Bed and Board (1970), Blue Gardenia (1953), Breathless (1960), Brick(2005), Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing, Day for Night (1973), 400 Blows (1959), Junebug (2005), Kiss Me Deadly (1955), M (1931), Match Point (2005), Metropolis (1927), Orson Welles: The Stranger, Pride and Prejudice (2005) -- a new favorite and an excellent adaptation, Rashomon (1950), Sherrybaby (2006), Shoot the Piano Player (1960), Third Man (1949), Thumbsucker (2005), Un Chien Andalou (1929), Visions of Light, What the #$*! Do We Know!? (2004), Woman in the Moon (1931). |
| Favorite music | Clash ("the only band that really matters"). Pretenders, Joan Jett, Tori Amos. Brian Eno productions. The Nuns (Bret Domrose iteration). Warren Zevon. Monsieur Jeffrey Evans. Dolly Parton. Patsy Cline. Nancy Apple. Rosemary Clooney. George Winston solo piano. Hearts of Space: Slow Music for Fast Times. Gershwin songs. My main radio channels are WCBE and CD101. I also lean toward singer/songwriters, and often individuals, esp. based on their voices. |
| Favorite books | Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is my favorite book. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is second. Persuasion by Jane Austen. I got partway through reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte -- that Heathcliff is so unforgiving, it's painful to read. Other than my forays into Regency England fiction, I prefer mostly non-fiction and self-help. The library cut me off @ 100 items checked out! Currently reading James Patterson women's murder club series. "Quiltmaking by Hand: Simple stitches, exquisite quilts" by Jinny Beyer. Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain. Magazines: Quilters' Newsletter, Men's Journal (subscriptions). Comic book series: Classic X-Men, esp. the Dark Phoenix Saga. Plus the alphabet mystery series by Sue Grafton (formerly of Olde Towne in Columbus), starring Kinsey Millhone: "A is for Alibi" through "S is for Silence." I don't close down any bars; I close down libraries and bookstores... |
