Introduction I have followed what has happened at Indian Point for the last 15 years as a citizen and concerned neighbor. I have been to many, many Nuclear Regulatory Commission meetings and have been radicalized by what I have wittnessed. That is, an agency charged with public health and safety that promotes the industry it supposedly regulates and an industry that agressively promotes profits over people. The relicensing proceedure for Indian Point is now in progress. Real life issues such as the increased population density, health issues, the evacuation plan, and traffic jams on our over crowded roads will not be considered. There are cheaper and cleaner ways to generate the electricity we need without leaving behind waste that is toxic for thousands of years. It is unfair to future generations for us to leave this high level radio active waste behind for them to deal with. It is a threat and not a resource as some who talk about the bogus idea of reprocessing suggest. We can do better than leave behind a mess that must be monitored for so long. With a decent energy policy we can create green jobs and a healthy economy in the process.
