| Introduction | I have a Jewish mother and a Muslim father. I am against no one, but I am an advocate for Judaism. I believe that many issues that concern Jews --Israel, anti-Semitism, basic human rights of all people -- are distorted and used against Jews, because Jews have not taken "ownership" of our religion; we have let others define us. I believe that it is not possible to fight anti-Semitism, make the "case for Israel", or, in a larger sense to be an advocate for social justice, without also "making the case" for Judaism. I believe peaceful co-existence between Jews and Muslims is not only possible, but natural. But in order for this to happen, Jews must have self respect,and not doubt the legitimacy of Judaism, and unwaveringly believe in their right to self-determination. Ultimately, I would like to see the development of a "Judeo-Islamic" culture, in which two great, and truly monotheistic religions prosper and flourish through cooperation, and in harmony with each other, and with the rest of the world. |
