Introduction I took my name from the 2002 NFL playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders. Near the end of the game, the Pats trailed but were driving down the field in a heavy snow storm. With the game on the line, Tom Brady, New England’s young quarterback, got hit by a blitzing Raider. Brady tried to tuck the wet ball against his body, but it shot out of his hand and rolled to a Raider. The Raiders danced and the Patriots trudged off the field, their season over. The referees conferred and checked the replay while Brady watched stoically, wondering if he would be a playoff goat. The officials finally returned the ball to the Patriots, citing the “Tuck Rule,” which holds that ANY forward motion of a quarterback's arm constitutes an attempted pass rather than a fumble. Brady led his team to a win, then to a Super Bowl title. Now he dates models and actresses, the Patriots are the dominant team in football and I call myself Tuck. Why? I love that we can go from incompetence to heroism instantly. I love that when all seems lost and the bad guys are celebrating our defeat, we can get a second chance. It’s rare, but I believe in second chances.
