| Introduction | Upali Augustus Obeyesekere was born in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka on October 15 to St. Elmo and Eugenie Obeyesekere. He had his early education at St. Anne's College, Kurunegala and moved to St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya. On leaving school, he joined Ceylon Fisheries Corporation in Colombo in 1965, and worked up to be Personal Assistant to the General Manager. He was also Exports Manager and Publicity officer of the Corporation. He was later in charge of combined Kandy/Kurunegala District in the last two years prior to emigrating to Canada in 1974. |
