| Introduction | In December 2009 Anton Wright and Mick Birchall will attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the Atlantic Rowing Race 2009. Neither of them have any ocean rowing experience! The race is billed as “The WordsToughest Rowing Race” by the organisers Woodvale Challenge ( www.woodvale-challenge.com/Atlantic+Rowing+Race+2009 ). The challenge will involve rowing from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the West Indies, a distance of nearly 3,000miles. This will take approximately 55-70 days to complete with each of the crew rowing 12 hours a day (2hours on two hours off). Braving storms, massive waves and the occasional shark this is certainly an “Oarsome” Challenge! They are doing this to raise £50,000 for three causes all related to children, these are the NSPCC (who we will donate 60% of money raised), Oundle Rugby Club Mini and Junior Section (20%) and Oundle Town Rowing Club (20%). |
