A move to NYC in 2004 displaced southeastern Texas for a music scene seething with gritty glamour, where her musician's double-life as singer in Golden Triangle and bassist in X-Ray Eyeballs allows her unfettered access to the Brooklyn underground. Preferring point-and-shoot cameras, Rabalais captures spontaneous moments that offer candid glimpses of the characters inhabiting this world. A film devotee, Rabalais cross-processes her prints, imbuing her subjects with a sense of intimacy that translates whispered narratives of passion and vulnerability within the cacophonous abandon. |
