| Introduction | Most of my work has an underlying message about concerns with social and environmental issues. Without making theses messages initially obvious I aim to intrigue and interest the viewer first, and hope that on closer inspection to bring a greater understanding of my concerns about the destruction of our valuable resource, the sea. I realised the impact this approach could make on first seeing a Grayson Perry pot that from a distance looked classically decorative yet close up revealed images that shocked. I haven’t intended to shock YET. I work with Cabinets of Curiosities because I am a collector: encaustic because I keep bees, and textiles because of my mother’s passion for covering the family and home in her fabric creations. |
