| Introduction | Ashton was born at the U of U Hospital and transported immediately to Primary Children’s Medical Center, in SLC. Ashton was diagnosed invetro with a Congenital Heart Defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome or HLHS. To date, Ashton has had 3 heart surgeries all performed at Primary Children’s by John A. Hawkins, M.D. •12/17/2006 Status post right modified Blalock-Taussig shunt •04/26/2007 Bi-Lateral Glenn •05/16/2007 Pericardial Window / Right Thoracic Duct Ligation. Ashton has been flown by life-flight from Idaho Falls (where he lives) to SLC on two occasions. Each time his right lung was filling with fluid. Additionally on the second flight, his right aorta was also collapsing. He has recovered well and is gaining strength daily. He is starting to crawl all over the place so we are quickly finding out that our house is not baby-proof. Ashton’s full diagnosis is: L-Malposition of the great arteries, with ventricular inversion, right-sided mitral atresia, right-sided hypoplastic left ventricle, functionally single left-sided right ventricle with double-outlet right ventricle, subvalvar pulmonary stenosis, left aortic arch, reverse oriented ductus ateriosus. |
