| Introduction | I’ve lived most of my life in South Africa, growing up in the town of Stellenbosch where I went to school and university, graduating with a Masters Degree in Economics. My career as an economist began in Pretoria at National Treasury, back in the 1990s in the era of Finance Minister Trevor Manuel. From there, I moved to the company today known as IHSMarkit, a global consulting firm, where I was its Southern African Macroeconomist. My Macroeconomist career continued at Absa Banking Group, where I co-ordinated the economic forecasting process, and in 2004 was Reuters Economist Of The Year. During this time I had developed an interest in the housing market, which was in the midst of possibly its greatest boom in history, and in 2006 I got the opportunity to join FNB as its Property Economist, where I have been for the past 15 years. |
| Interests | The field of economics, although my work, is also my main interest in life. But outside of this, I have dabbled in a variety of sports. In earlier years, it was tennis, hockey, golf and squash. In more recent years, I have enjoyed bringing up the rear of various ultra-distance endurance events, ranging from Comrades Marathon to Ironman and long distance unsupported cycling adventures. |
