Introduction Growing up in rural southern ontario with a mother whose insatiable curiosity of plants, wild and hybridized, I accepted early on that growing things were a vital part of life. My father, an english ex-pat, had a farmers intuition about nature and a deep appreciation of the growing cycle. We grew everything from carrots and potatoes to hawthorn and sumach, whose berries my dad swore turned the pigs their lovely rosy pink.
InterestsWith blooms and greenery, anything is art.
Favorite moviesOne of my mothers' great grandfathers came to canada from germany to fight alongside the english at the planes of abraham in 1759. He later settled in toronto on roncesvalles, creating the first of several greenhouse complexes and forging a burgeoning floral industry in toronto. There were other grandfathers, uncles, and cousins who made their way in toronto's floriculture in those early days but with a recent gap of about 85 years.
Favorite musicI envisioned attending years of botany classes or the study of agriculture or genetics but I veered straight into the film and television industry the second I had saved $300 and a bus ticket to toronto at 17. After working my way through the industry, I landed the sweet job I had my eye on, personnel coordinator at the largest commercial house in canada. I had many exciting, happy and manic years with the partners film company and rode the dervishly wild excessive 80's through to the fat-trimming 90's and was witness to the slow decline of production in toronto to the point where the creme that rose to the top was larger headed and more pretentious than any of the kardashians. I left behind the only types of jobs I understood to find out who I was without the stereotype.
Favorite booksI noticed a help wanted sign in a shop window. Walking in, my eyes adjusted to a dusty, unkempt flower shop. The young girl at the desk eyeballed me nonchalantly. "You need some help" I suggested. We struck up a fast and furious friendship, one in which I later reckon to a greek tragedy, although I managed to survive. That was the beginning of a floral love affair and epiphany that changed my life forever. Thousands of bouquets, & boutionniers later, I am never bored. My retail, event, and landscape experience is varied and wide reaching. I am, at heart, a Manager and Teacher. I am a Team Leader. I have lead Teams of Designers from small to large events and also daily retail routines. I have trained many Juniors as Assistants and or Junior Designers. I sell very well. I upsell very well. I impliment ideas that maximize profits and generate new revenue streams. I am loyal, caring and conscientious.
