| Introduction | I am a Professor of Computer Science at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science and Associate Dean of Research at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Waterloo. I served as the Director of the Cheriton School from January 2007 until July 2010. I do research in data management; mostly focusing on distributed data management, and management of non-traditional data (lately focusing on graph and RDF data). I am a Fellow of the ACM, and of the IEEE, and an elected member of the Turkish Academy of Science. I am also a member of Sigma Xi. I have co-authored, with Patrick Valduriez, the book Principles of Distributed Database Systems whose third edition came out in 2011. I also co-edited, with Ling Liu, the Encyclopedia of Database Systems (Springer) whose second edition is in the works. I am the Editor-in-Chief of ACM Books. I edited the Synthesis Lectures on Data Management (Morgan & Claypool) from 2009 until 2014. |
