IntroductionI think it is important to seek truth, and not allow people to believe in things that may be false, even if it brings them comfort. You may say what is the harm in giving people happiness, even if it is the just from an unproven placebo affect. I believe anything we believe that is untrue can cause harm. therapeutic touch, homeopathic medicine, naturopathy, water witching, and any manner of various odd spiritual beliefs. Then there are the even more common beliefs that it’s hard to say are “wrong” or prove wrong even though many pure scientists believe they are wrong such as belief that chondroitin and glucosamine helps joint pain, chiropractors, acupuncture, and belief that lie detector machines actually work (mostly they work because people think they do). All of these deserve to be questioned and tested to insure that when we “teach” we are conveying knowledge and not just erroneous beliefs. While intentions may be good and results may provide positive human experiences, the beliefs may not be true. I hope you agree that challenging them is a worthwhile exercise.
