Introduction | I am a polyglot documentary and travel photographer and writer with a penchant for rugged journeys, though I am as comfortable working in Paris and New York as in the Amazon and the Sahara Desert. I have photographed the cultures of more than 30 tribal and indigenous peoples in three continents. My stories have been published by National Geographic (nine times), Smithsonian, Natural History, International Wildlife, Archaeology, the German and French editions of GEO, the London Sunday Times, Paris Match, and many magazines long out of circulation. I am also the sole photographer of 17 photo books, four of which I wrote, including Aborigines of the Rain Forest: The Yanomami and award-winning Wind, Sand and Silence: Travels with Africa’s Last Nomads, a compilation of five of my National Geographic stories, which Time magazine recommended in its 1992 Christmas issue. |
