About me

Industry Arts
Location Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand
Introduction The core of my work is always inspired by an empathy, or a sentimentality for the underdog. Whether it be houses, people, native birds or landscapes. I always feel that my subject is working to reinvent themselves, retain their ground or rebuild their strength. In painting birds I hope to evoke an empathy in the viewer. I think that if we cannot relate to these creatures then we will never be compelled to aid their plight for survival. The bright colours I use on my paintings of Dunedin’s historic villas represents my hope that these buildings will be rejuvenated instead of being left to decay and later be demolished. I also feel a strong sentimentality for the lifestyle New Zealander’s lived 100 years ago when food was home grown and clothes were handmade and mended. -------- Though my outlook may be sentimental, I have a strong sense of hope and possibility – all is not yet lost. To the observer I pose the question “will you help?”
