| Introduction | As the co-founder of Native Oregon and former geological research assistant, Phillip Elden knows a thing or two about environmental conservation. This passionate professional says that he has been captivated with nature since as early as he can remember. Growing up in the dust of the Oregon Trail, Phillip Elden calls McMinnville home (although he currently lives in Cottage Grove). As a child, his parents would often take him and his siblings walking and picnicking in Ed Grenfell Park. But it was his first visit to Erratic Rock State Natural Site that piqued Phillip Elden’s interest in geology. After high school, Phillip Elden went on to the University of Oregon where he both earned his bachelor's degree in and later worked as a research assistant in geological sciences. It was during college that he met his current wife Cindi. The two fell in love during tennis practice and later found that they both had a love of mountain climbing. Together, the Eldens have hiked at least one major trail each year for the last two decades. |
