IntroductionBill Lear is the Curator and Conservator for the Illinois State Military Museum in Springfield, Illinois. He is responsible for the care and preservation of all objects entrusted to the Museum. He is also responsible for the design and construction of all exhibits within the Museum. Bill graduated with a B.A. in History from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, and a M.A. in Public History from the University Of Illinois. He attended the Jekyll Island Management Institute, a professional development program organized annually by the Southeastern Museum Conference. He also trained in textile preservation at the International Preservation Studies Center in Mount Carroll, Illinois. He trained under Sheila Hanke, Conservator/Collections Manager with Midwest Museum Services, in the conservation of historical flags. Bill Lear is a retired Master Sergeant with the Illinois Army National Guard and has completed two tours in Afghanistan.
