| Introduction | My wool appliqued folk art quilts reflect my rural Kansas background. Growing up on a farm I was exposed to nature on a daily basis, especially trees, flowers, woodland animals and farm animals. This helped me develop my love of nature. Moving to Iowa only reinforced my love and appreciation for the natural beauty of our earth. My love of bright colors, hand applique, embroidery, wool, and embellishments are, also, reflected in my quilts. In 2000 I joined the Des Moines Area Quilt Guild and in 2001 I founded the Des Moines Area Wild Rose Applique Society. Seeing more wool being used in quilts along with wanting to incorporate embroidery, beads and all types of embellishments into these quilts, I was very excited to have Sue Spargo come to our guild for classes in wool embroidery and embellishment. Attending these classes helped me realize how to bring together all the things I love to do into one quilt style. Hence Folk Art With A Twist was born. Thanks Sue! Donna |
