Introduction The Scrutinize campaign is an HIV prevention campaign which centres around a series of “animerts” (the name given to the short animated commercials) whose characters mimic certain SA celebrities’ looks and personalities and whose messages are specifically tailored for a young (18-32-year-old) SA audience. Lead character Victor the taxi-driver, for example, is loosely based on comedian Joey Rasdien, and Victor’s role is not only to punt the slogan “Flip HIV to H-I-Victory” but also to introduce the other characters and themes in the campaign. What makes the campaign so different is the fact that the characters are all local stereotypes in the community that many can relate to, from your everyday taxi-driver to sugar mommies and daddies and shebeen queens. Scrutinize Campus Campaign will take place at five higher education institutions during the months of August and September 2008. The campaign will support the SCRUTINIZE campaign and will seek to promote our prevention objectives in promoting Abstinence and faithfulness and other prevention measures. The campaign seeks also to promote the uptake of counselling and testing services.
