About me

IntroductionI am Dr. Kirstin Meyer-Kaiser, a world-traveling marine biologist. Currently, I am an Associate Scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. I study how communities of animals form on isolated, island-like habitats on the seafloor, particularly shipwrecks. I am a technical diver (CCR, trimix, cave) and use technical diving to collect samples during field expeditions. This blog is about exploring the world and figuring out how it works. It is about the process of science, from identifying a question to publishing the answer. It is about the struggles, the victories, the cultures, and the people that I encounter along the way. I consider myself extremely fortunate that my work carries me across the globe and gives me the chance to explore. Feel free to ask me questions in the comments or just live vicariously.
