| Introduction | Thanks for coming by to take in The View From My Boots. Beginning with my first job as a fisheries technician, I was hooked on working outdoors. From the Ozark streams where I "got my feet wet," I set out to study seabirds and marine mammals on Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge. In later years, I helped restore salmon habitat with the U.S. Forest Service, and I researched sandhill crane breeding behavior with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These days, I'm navigating my way through parenthood and writing to earn my keep. As a longtime contributor to the National Wildlife Federation's family publications, I strive to share my passion for nature with kids. And as a newly enlisted endangered species specialist for About.com, I'm committed to bringing facts, news, and learning resources to your virtual doorstep. Endangered species conservation is a critical issue to everyone who shares this planet. Join me in taking a step toward preserving wildlife and wild places. |
