| Introduction | Welcome, I am Titus, your average galley slave. I am a criminal, but because of my strength I was punished by being sent into slavery for life opposed to a death penalty. I work on a trireme and am currently fighting in the Punic Wars for Rome. I spend my day rowing on the lower deck of the trireme. As a galley slave I require a lot of strength along with others to row for hours at high speeds. We scout the seas for Carthagian ships then charge at full speed and ram into them. We live our lives in fear that we will go down with the ship because we are shackled to it.Without me and the other slaves in the fleet, we might not have had victory in the first Punic War. I haven’t seen my family since 264 B.C. , when I first left to war, and I know my wife is probably remarried or a slave. |
