| Introduction | A native of Miami, I attended the University of Miami for my B.A. and M.A. in English. I've also earned a Graduate Certificate in Community College Education from the University of Central Florida. Since joining Broward College in 2001, I have taught both online and on-campus courses. I am very proud that in 2008, I became one of the first Broward College faculty to be recognized by Quality Matters for Excellence in Online Course Design. In 2009, I was awarded one of our College's most prestigious honors, the A. Hugh Adams Endowed Teaching Chair. |
| Favorite music | A lifelong musician (I play keyboards and sing), my musical tastes tend toward folk and acoustic rock. My favorite artists include the Indigo Girls, Jackson Browne, Bruce Hornsby, Melissa Etheridge, Simon & Garfunkel, etc. As a child of the 80's, I still enjoy 80's rock (Foreigner, Genesis, Toto, etc.) as well. I've been in a few bands over the years, most recently with a fellow professor (Gordon Maddison) and former BC student (Sebastian Cruz). Our band, Eight Bells Till, recently released our first album, which can be found on iTunes, Amazon.com, etc. |
| Favorite books | I've mostly specialized in American literature. My favorite writers include Walt Whitman ("Song of Myself," "Live Oak, with Moss"), Allen Ginsberg ("Howl"), Toni Morrison ("Beloved"), James Baldwin ("Giovanni's Room"), Salman Rushdie ("Midnight's Children"), and Mark Twain ("Huck Finn," "Connecticut Yankee"), among others. |
