Introduction | Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, I was exposed to life on a farm. (Read "exposed" as meaning "I had to work in the garden a bunch when I would have rather been playing.") We grew the majority of the food that we ate, so I became used to working in a garden and caring for farm animals. I mistakenly assumed that everyone grew up the way that I did. Imagine my surprise when I learned in a college class that I lived in APPALACHIA and my childhood was a bit different from mainstream America! I am proud to be a mountain girl and I want to share my love of this area. For almost 20 years, I was lucky enough to use my history degree and my minor in Appalachian Studies working at living history sites. I am still very involved with history, in fiber arts, family history, and playing the mountain dulcimer. I also have a bit of a strange sense of humor, so you might get a sampling of that in my posts. |
