| Introduction | I'm a grandson of George Ringer and Ida Scharnikow. My interest in American history led me to wonder about the involvement of my ancestors in that history. Actually, I had always been led to believe that all of my relatives had recently immigrated to the U.S. from Germany and Norway, and was disappointed to think that I had missed out on having relatives who lived through the defining moments of American history. I was delighted to recently learn that such was not the case! I now know that I have many ancestors who were in the U.S. before it was a country, and who were involved in the revolutionary effort, the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The search continues. |
