| Introduction | I am a nature writer and educator who has lived all over the US and abroad, including many seasons working in Sequoia National Park. I currently make my home in the New River Valley of southwestern Virginia at the confluence of the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. I teach courses and workshops in nature and environmental writing, creative nonfiction, and travel writing in Chatham University’s low-residency MFA program. All my writing focuses on the intricacies of place and I am particularly interested in the portrayal of animals in folklore, myth, science,and natural and cultural history in order to meditate on the complexities of human-animal relationships. |
