| Introduction | Hello! I spent the month of May 2019 circumnavigating the country by rail on Amtrak, traveling by train from Chicago to Seattle, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., New York City and Boston, and then back to Chicago, with stops at points in between. I've enjoyed rail travel for many years, and I worked as a dining car waiter for Amtrak in the summer of 1975, based in Chicago. I spent most of my career working for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the State Budget Office, and I've also worked as a public policy consultant. I graduated from Lawrence University and the University of Chicago Law School. My wife Heidi and I have twin daughters who are in college, and everyone in the family enjoys traveling. Heidi came up with the name for this blog (her other suggestion was "Choo Choo Chandler," but I thought that sort of lacked gravitas). |
