| Introduction | It seems that I am destined to wander, having lived in Ohio, Wisconsin, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, Brooklyn, Seattle, and now Miami Beach. I am a writer. I have done freelance work, magazines mostly, and have had poetry published in literary journals, magazines, and newspapers. I am working on a novel - "The Silence of Blackbirds." In spite of the beauty of ocean and palm trees, my frame of mind is not always one of serenity and peace. I think Lorraine Hansberry so eloquently captures how I feel. In the early '60s she wrote: "Write if you will: but write about he world as it is and as you think it ought to be and must be -- if there is to be a world....Quite simply and quietly as I know how to say it: I am sick of poverty, lynching, stupid wars and the universal maltreatment of my people and obsessed with a rather desperate desire for a new world for me and my brothers." |
