Introduction Manhattanite Laala Matias has a BFA in Film & Television from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she received the Warner Bros. Post Production Award for the completion of her thesis film, Low-Life Tendencies. She has worked with Saturday Night Live's film unit and HBO's documentary division. Two of her short films screened at the Kennedy Center/Smithsonian Institution and in various cities. After graduation, she wet her feet working on Law & Order: SVU, Hype Williams' music videos and Spike Lee's commercials. Laala was a ABC/Disney Television Writing Fellow. She recently wrote and produced the one-act play Great Expectations for the NYU New Writers Showcase at the Friars of Beverly Hills and wrote an overnight newspaper for the hit reality show Big Brother 8 on CBS. In between scripts, Laala produces the LAaLALand List of local cultural events from her multi-colored apartment in the Valley – the blog helps her adapt to how it's always sunny in Southern California. Interests Partying, working out (bootcamp, kayaking, hiking, climbing, rollerblading, etc.), concert-going, reading about politics and social issues and learning from others. My great experiences as a hip hop photojournalist, Manhattan real estate agent, corporate paralegal (Enron) and many travels (Cuba, Holland, Suriname, Dominican Republic, etc.) to inspire my television writing while enjoying the warm Los Angeles weather. I also love to travel as much as possible. The GOAL of THE LAaLALand List is to bring out your inner child thru arts and culture.
Favorite Movies Say Anything (if only love could be so pure), Crash, When Harry Met Sally, The Secret, Good Will Hunting, Love Actually, Don't Be A Menace While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, Once Were Warriors, Muriel's Wedding, The Panama Deception, Fast Food Nation
