About me

Introduction	I teach chess through Academic Chess and my own program Patterson Chess. Through Academic Chess, I teach chess in a number of public and private schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Patterson Chess works with students with learning disabilities teenagers who have been incarcerated in youth guidance facilities. I also teach privately as well. I worked as a professional musician until being diagnosed with cancer in 2007. After my caner went into remission, I decided to do something good in return for my life being saved. I took my love for chess and teaching, put them together and became a chess instructor. Each year, I take on a limited number of students who otherwise couldn't afford private lessons and offer them my services free of charge.
