Introduction Martha Wakefield, artist, instructor, & mentor explores the fragility of memory through painting. Born in Maine Wakefield studied fashion design at UVM & FIT in NYC. After a successful career in NYC’s fashion industry she moved to Boston & started her own fashion consulting business. This provided opportunities to return to her avocation in art before becoming fully committed to painting in 2007. Wakefield has studied with Wolf Kahn, Jon Imber & Skip Lawrence. Each of these artists has inspired her color perception and composition. Wakefield is represented by Powers Gallery of Massachusetts. Her paintings have been featured in The Palette Magazine; Wild Apples: A Journal of Nature, Art and Inquiry; & on book covers: Splash, Plein Air Poetry 2016 & Shadow and Light, A Literary Anthology on Memory. A staff writer for The Palette Magazine since 2008, she writes about technique & professional artists. She also teaches art classes & workshops in the Boston area. Wakefield’s paintings have won many awards & are in private & corporate collections in United States & Canada.
