| Introduction | When I look at a painting, I have a subjective reaction to it- either I like it, or dislike it. The purpose of this blog is to try and take this a step further, and figure out why I have a particular reaction to a painting by having to explain what I did and why I did it to an imaginary audience. By doing this, I hope to improve my skills in general, spend less time being “stuck”, and more time moving forward. I have been drawing ever since I can remember, and recall getting in trouble at school for drawing when I was supposed to be paying attention to some other task. Later on I ended up taking more formal training in the arts. Once I entered the work force, my art production dropped to nearly nothing and at best I would turn out one or two paintings or finished drawings a year. After a thirty year break, I found myself in the position to pick up where I left off, and started painting again. This was a craft I had a little experience in, but had never really explored to a great extent. I am learning how to use color and to pay more attention to the overall composition. By analyzing each piece I hope to get to a more intuitive level and continue to improve. |
