| Favorite movies | I have always loved films that reflect the beauty of poetry, music, and deep emotions — much like the ghazals I sing. Some of my all-time favorite movies include Pakeezah, Umrao Jaan (1981), Mughal-e-Azam, Mirza Ghalib (1954), Barsaat Ki Raat, Baiju Bawra, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Abhimaan, Amar Prem, Guide, Chitchor, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Kinara, Rajnigandha, and Anubhav. These movies have not only beautiful music and timeless poetry but also rich stories that touch the heart, much like the ghazals I compose and perform. The melodious compositions by great music directors, soulful lyrics by legendary poets, and memorable performances by classic actors continue to inspire my musical expression and passion for Urdu poetry. |
| Favorite music | I am deeply connected to ghazal music, Urdu poetry, and classical melodies that touch the soul. My favorite music includes ghazals by legends like Jagjit Singh, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, Chandan Das, Hariharan, and my own compositions. I also admire classical and semi-classical maestros like Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Begum Akhtar, Ustad Rashid Khan, and Pt. Jasraj. Timeless Bollywood music by Madan Mohan, Naushad, SD Burman, Khayyam, Roshan, Salil Chowdhury, and Ravi deeply inspires me with their soulful melodies and poetic depth. I cherish the beautiful poetry of Mirza Ghalib, Meer Taqi Meer, Daagh Dehlvi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmed Faraz, Jigar Moradabadi, and Sahir Ludhianvi, whose words continue to inspire my compositions. The blend of soulful poetry and beautiful music in ghazals is timeless. Composing new melodies, interpreting classical ghazals, performing live, recording albums, and sharing the beauty of Urdu poetry through music remains my greatest passion. |
| Favorite books | I have always been drawn towards poetry, literature, and biographies that reflect the beauty of emotions, creativity, music, and the art of ghazals. My favorite books include Urdu poetry collections of Mirza Ghalib (Diwan-e-Ghalib), Meer Taqi Meer (Kulliyat-e-Meer), Daagh Dehlvi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz (Kulliyat-e-Faiz), Ahmed Faraz, Jigar Moradabadi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Shakeel Badayuni, and Sahir Ludhianvi. These timeless poets inspire my compositions and performances deeply. I also enjoy reading biographies and memoirs of great musicians like In Search of Lata Mangeshkar by Harish Bhimani, Raga Mala by Ravi Shankar, The Unsung by Kavita Das, A Raga’s Journey by Chitra Ramaswamy, and Singing in the Dark edited by K Satchidanandan. Books on the history of Indian classical music, ghazal traditions, and Urdu literature fascinate me. These works continuously fuel my passion to compose, sing, and promote the rich legacy of ghazals, classical poetry, and soulful music. |
